Department of Business and Professional Regulation Launches “Why Not?”

2010 Spring Break Video Contest to Prevent Underage Drinking

TALLAHASSEE—Today, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation launched the second annual “Why Not?” Spring Break Video Contest, encouraging 14- to 20-year-olds to submit 30-second videos on why they choose not to drink alcohol underage during spring break. The contest harnesses the power of peer-to-peer communication and uses social networking sites, such as YouTube.com and SchoolTube.com, for submissions. While no money is being spent on the campaign, three winners will receive up to $1,000 Best Buy gift cards, which have been made possible by “Why Not?” sponsors. Contestants have from now through Saturday, Feb. 20, to create and submit their videos.

“As high school and college students throughout the country start spring break planning, we’re asking them to make the decision not to drink alcohol underage a part of those plans,” stated Interim Secretary Charlie Liem. “We believe that by creating a platform where underage youth can share videos directly with one another, we open the dialogue on underage drinking and allow them to influence each other.”

To participate, visit MyFloridaLicense.com and navigate from the “Customer Service Spotlight” section to the “Why Not?” Spring Break Video Contest page. All 30-second submissions are due by Saturday, Feb. 20, and can be submitted using YouTube.com or SchoolTube.com. The “Why Not?” winning videos will be selected by a panel of judges, representing: the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the Governor’s Office of Drug Control, the Department of Education, Florida State University and Tri-Eagle Sales.

The top winning videos’ creators will be awarded “Producer” $1,000 Best Buy gift cards made possible by the Florida Retail Federation and The Charmer Sunbelt Group. A third video’s creators will be awarded the “Director” $500 Best Buy gift card made possible by Tri-Eagle Sales. All winners will have their videos posted on the DBPR Web site, shared through Facebook.com, and distributed to statewide media as public service announcements. 10-003075 1600 hrs Burglary Auto 4305 N Congress Ave

Between 1400 and 1600 hrs suspect made entry to victims vehicle that was parked at Meadows Park, and removed her purse. At approximately 1703 hrs victims credit card was used at Target 650 North Congress Ave, reference BBPD case 10-003062 (3 arrests made)

10-003062 1703 hrs Fraudulent Use Of Credit cards 650 N Congress Ave

Units responded to the report of a suspect that had returned to Target reference a past fraud case. Upon arrival units determined that the following three suspects possessed the purse stolen in the above burglary (10-003062), and used the victims credit card to purchase over $2,000.00 worth of merchandise. The victims purse was recovered along with all contents in the suspects vehicle and returned to the victim. Also located inside the suspect vehicle was a purse stolen in a burglary out of PBSO case 10-028245. Arrested were: H/M Peter Maya 06/19/88, B/F Tachanavian Ashley 03/14/87, B/M Jude Alexis 05/21/89. Due to the combined efforts of Officer Rini, Officer Reynolds, Officer Lauture, Det Llopis, and Det McDeavitt, the suspects were charged with the following: Possession of stolen credit cards, Forgery, Uttering a forged instrument, Fraudulent use of a credit card, Grand theft, Scheme to defraud, Burglary.

10-003111 2226 hrs Auto Theft 2111 Mahogany Drive

The victim stated that he parked his black with maroon trim 2006 Suzuki GSXR 750 motorcycle, bearing FL tag 9719KU, in the north section of the parking area at building 2 at about 2000 hrs. At 2210 hrs, he returned to find his motorcycle had been stolen. FCIC/NCIC bolo entry made.

10-002930 2143 hrs Aggravated Assault 219 W Woolbright Rd

Upon arrival it was determined that suspect W/M Kenneth Thornsbury had struck victim W/M Norman Brooks in face, after accusing him of the theft of his wallet. After the physical fight was stopped by roommates, Thornsbury produced and threatened the victim with a knife. Thornsbury was taken into custody and later turned over to PBSO Jail.

W/F Kristen Interlandi (08/15/82) was taken into custody for an outstanding felony warrant # 09-014344 for possession of Oxycodone. She was processed and turned over to PBSO Jail.

10-002948 2340 hrs Trespass After Warning 220 NE 10th Ave

B/M Antonio Bryant was found to be loitering in the parking lot of 220 NE 10th, after being previously trespass warned. He was processed and turned over to PBSO Jail.

10-2740 1749 Hours Burglary Fenced Compound 619 N. Fed. Hwy. (Goodyear)

A citizen called 911 and advised dispatch that a B/M, later identified as John Adams DOB 12-25-42, was stealing tires from the fenced in compound to the rear of Goodyear. Units arrived and located Adams inside the fenced in compound throwing tires over the fence. Officers arrested Adams and sent him to the Palm Beach County Jail.

10-2673 0418 hrs 35 Country Lake Cir Residential Burglary

Sometime between 01/08/10 and 01/17/10 unknown suspects entered the residence and removed a 50” Samsung LCD TV, a 50” Phillips LCD TV, a Samsung 32” LCD TV, and a WII with its’ games. There were no signs of forced entry but there was damage to the front door lock. Crime Scene responded.

10-2683 0711 hrs 121 SE 12th Ave. Residential Burglary

Sometime between 2300 and 1200 hours unknowns suspects removed 2 mountain bikes from a covered carport. The bikes were both men’s mountain bikes.

10-2708 1217 hrs 2014 S Federal Hwy B406 Burglary Auto

Sometime during the night unknown suspects entered the victims 2006 gray Ford Freestyle by unknown means and stole his Tom Tom XL1 GPS unit. No crime scene.

10-002600 1902 hrs Carjacking (attempt) 548 E Woolbright Road

Three black male juveniles were arrested after they punched two Hispanic males in the face and knocked them off a red ’07 Key West scooter. The trio then attempted to pick up the scooter and run off. When they were unsuccessful, they kicked the scooter causing over $500 damage. The trio was caught in the 300 block of SE 20th Court as officers canvassed the area. The victims positively identified the trio. All three were sent to JAC.

10-002607 2013 hrs Robbery (strong-arm) 3200 Old Boynton Road

W/M Randolph Shultis DOB 10-09-86 was arrested after he fought with a Mal-Mart loss prevention officer who was attempting to recover $85.00 worth of DVD’s Shultis was concealing. Shultis was processed and sent to county jail. The LPO received treatment from BBFR for minor injuries.

10-002361 1624 hrs Robbery (armed) 144 NE 15th Avenue

Victim, the proprietor of Rich’s Ice Cream stated that he was driving his ice cream truck on NE 15th Avenue when he was flagged down by a potential customer. Victim stated that the teen purchased an ice cream and as he was about to make change two other black male juveniles wearing black shirts around their faces climbed into the truck, pointed handguns at him and demanded money. Victim turned over $35.00 and the males fled on foot before entering two separate cars. Crime scene and D-bureau responded.

10-002374 1722 hrs Burglary (residence) 2010 NW 2nd Court

Victim stated that between 0600 hrs and 1700 hrs unknown person(s) entered his gated backyard by climbing the fence. Once inside the yard the unknown suspect(s) stole a bicycle ($50.00) which was chained to a tree. The cut padlock was found on the ground.

10-002388 1908 hrs Robbery (armed) 1901 N Seacrest Blvd

Victim stated he was walking near the racquetball courts at Ezell Hester Community Center when he was approached by five black males in their early 20’s, one of which was wielding a small handgun. The suspects stole the victim’s Metro PCS cell phone and his FL ID card.

10-002221 1758 hrs Armed Robbery 1901 North Seacrest Blvd

Victim W/M Armando Garcia and his wife, W/F Juanita Garcia stated that while walking around the Ezell Hester Park he was approached by two B/M's who suddenly pointed a small silver pistol at him and demanded his money. Armando handed his wallet, containing a F/L Driver's license and no money, to the B/M at which time the two B/M's ran from the area heading S/B. He described the suspects as B/M teenagers approx. 5'6 to 5'10 in height with short black hair. One of the suspects was wearing a white shirt and the other a black shirt. Armando could not remember the color of the pants. Units were unable to find any witnesses and canvassing of the surrounding area revealed negative results.

W/F Meredith Cyr was arrested for DUI. The results of the breath test are .258 at 2327 hours and .255 at 2329 hours. She was processed and turned over to PBSO Jail.

Victim stated that sometime between 2230 hours last night and 11:30 hours on this date an unknown person punctured his two front tires ( General Amertrac tires) of his 2006 black Chevy Truck Fl tag 888JTY ($320.00 total loss)

Victim got into a verbal dispute with suspect W/M Jason Hyman over the fact that the victim thinks Hyman illegally poaches fish. The dispute turned physical when Hyman punched the victim in the head. Victim had no visible injuries. Hyman later turned himself into BBPD where he was processed and released with a NTA.

10-002071 2249 hrs Burglary Residence 2209 NE 1st Lane

On 01-13-10 between 0800 and 1800 hrs unknown suspect forced entry into victims residence by throwing a rock through the front window of the residence. The following items were stolen from the residence: Fujifilm Digital Camera valued at $100.00 (serial 8WB07505, model J10), a Toshiba computer valued at $500.00 (serial 49575235Q, model Satellite L305-55924), a Samsung computer valued at $300.00 (serial CM20H9Ls21, model 2033) and an Emachine computer unknown serial number. No suspect info and crime scene was negative.

10-002103 2154 hrs Retail Theft 3200 Old Boynton Rd

Units responded to the report of a retail theft. Upon arrival suspect W/M Jack Jackson was observed walking out into the parking lot. When Officer Munro attempted to stop the suspect, he refused and Officer Munro used a leg sweep technique to escort him to the ground. Suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect was released with an NTA.

10-002127 0050 hrs GTA 101 W Woolbright Rd

Victim left his 1998 beige Toyota Camry with the engine running, while he entered Seven Eleven. When he returned outside his vehicle was GOA. Officer Haugh observed the stolen vehicle travelling west in the 100 block of SW 8th Ave. When sufficient units arrived a traffic stop was conducted and W/M David Bulauski was taken into custody without incident. Bulauski was processed and turned over to PBSO Jail.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance with identifying a female suspect wanted for Use of Stolen Gift Cards

On Tuesday, December 29, 2009, the suspect was seen on surveillance video shopping at Target in Boynton Beach using stolen gift cards. Detectives are attempting to identify this white female with dark hair, wearing a gray t-shirt and carrying a light colored purse.

If anyone can identify this female they are urged to contact Detective Rogan at 688-4061 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.

Haitian Earthquake Relief Fraud Alert

The FBI today reminds Internet users who receive appeals to donate money in the aftermath of Tuesday’s earthquake in Haiti to apply a critical eye and do their due diligence before responding to those requests. Past tragedies and natural disasters have prompted individuals with criminal intent to solicit contributions purportedly for a charitable organization and/or a good cause.

Therefore, before making a donation of any kind, consumers should adhere to certain guidelines, to include the following:

Do not respond to any unsolicited (spam) incoming e-mails, including clicking links contained within those messages.
Be skeptical of individuals representing themselves as surviving victims or officials asking for donations via e-mail or social networking sites.
Verify the legitimacy of nonprofit organizations by utilizing various Internet-based resources that may assist in confirming the group’s existence and its nonprofit status rather than following a purported link to the site.
Be cautious of e-mails that claim to show pictures of the disaster areas in attached files because the files may contain viruses. Only open attachments from known senders.
Make contributions directly to known organizations rather than relying on others to make the donation on your behalf to ensure contributions are received and used for intended purposes.
Do not give your personal or financial information to anyone who solicits contributions: Providing such information may compromise your identity and make you vulnerable to identity theft.
Anyone who has received an e-mail referencing the above information or anyone who may have been a victim of this or a similar incident should notify the IC3 via www.ic3.gov.

Victim reported she was pumping gas into her van and left her purse on the passenger seat. Upon entering her vehicle, she observed the purse missing and the passenger door ajar. Video surveillance revealed a B/M, wearing a dark “hoodie” jacket and tan pants, enter the vehicle and removed the purse. The male left in a red Chevrolet Malibu.

10-001911 1859 hrs Burglary Auto 2018 S. Federal Hwy.

Victim reported that an unknown person entered her unsecured Chevrolet sedan and removed her Magellan GPS from the glove box between 01-10-10 at 1900 hours and 01-11-10 at 0800 hours. No suspect information. Crime scene was negative.

10-001940 2153 hrs Failed to Stop 100 Block NW 17th Ave.

B/M, Shurod White, (03/16/75) arrested after he was observed recklessly driving a beige 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe (FL B888PQ). Upon signaling it to stop, the driver refused for a short distance, then suddenly stopped and ran from the vehicle. White was apprehended after a short run and brief struggle. White had a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest and was in possession of Marijuana Less Than 20 grams. Subject TOT PBCJ.

10-001724 1712 hrs Warrant Arrest 500 W Boynton Beach Blvd

B/M Bernard Johnson DOB 04-16-83 was found to have an outstanding FTA warrant for violation of park hours following a traffic stop. Johnson was sent to county jail after the warrant was confirmed.

10-001739 1850 hrs Possession of Contraband 200 NW 10th Avenue

Officers located a black Mazda 6 matching the description of vehicle driven by a subject wanted for four outstanding felony warrants. The subject was also allegedly armed and transporting narcotics to Ft. Pierce. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver bailed and was caught after a short foot pursuit. The driver, b/m William L Watson DOB 08-18-79 was discovered to have four outstanding warrants (burglary, CCF, Violation of Protection Order, and Domestic Violence). He was additionally charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of marijuana, battery on L.E.O., and resisting w/o violence. Watson was sent to county jail.

10-001776 2229 hrs Shooting 2123 NE 3rd Street

Officers responded to the report of vehicle striking the side of a house. Upon arrival a gold Lincoln Navigator was found to have crashed into the side of the residence. Upon checking the driver for injuries, he was discovered to have a gunshot wound to the chest. A loaded firearm was found on the floorboard. The male was transported to Delray Trauma where he succumbed to his injuries. Bethesda Hospital called about a second victim who had multiple gunshot wounds. This male was stabilized and transported to Delray Trauma. The investigation is on-going and a Press Release will follow.

10-001587 1711 hrs Theft 2815 S Seacrest Blvd

Victim advised she placed her purse in her employee locker located at Bethesda Hospital at approximately 0930h on this date before beginning her shift. She returned to the locker at approximately 1700h and discovered her lock was missing from the locker. When she opened the locker she discovered her purse was stolen. The purse was valued at approximately $35. The purse contained several miscellaneous items with a total loss of approximately $150.00. No suspect info.

10-001589 1712 hrs Burglary Residence 2554 SW 12th St

Between 01/07/2010 06:30:00 and 01/10/2010 17:00:00 victim noticed that her jewelry tree was missing off the dresser in her bedroom. She said that upon further investigation, she also noticed that missing from the top right dresser drawer was another jewelry tray. She stated that she had necklaces, bracelets, pendants, earrings and a Mickey Mouse watch (she included an itemized list totaling approx. $12,950.00). A neighbor advised that he had seen a silver Dodge Dakota pickup truck FL J897NN in the victim’s driveway on Thursday at 1255hrs; however, the tag does not come back to said vehicle. No signs of forced entry. Crime scene was negative for latent prints.

Victim advised that while she was inside the business for only several minutes unknown suspect(s) smashed the front passenger window ($200) to her vehicle and stole her purse. Victim stated that it was a straw type purse ($25) which contained only her I-Pod ($250, unknown serial number) and Bose Headphones ($350, unknown serial number). Crime Scene was negative for any latent prints (smash and grab - no prints) and/or blood/fluids left. Total loss is $825

10-001477 1856 hrs Warrant Arrest 2600 N Seacrest Blvd

B/F Althea Grant (dob 06/17/76) was found to have a FTA warrant for a traffic offense (warrant #: 09017900CTAXX). Once the warrant was confirmed via BBPD Records). Grant was transported to BBPD for processing and later TOT PBCJ.

10-001480 1912 hrs Suspicious Incident 1620 S Federal Hwy

Victim advised she was approached by an unknown male suspect who stated “I don’t want to hurt you so give me your money so I can get out of here”. Male stated he had a gun, but none seen. Described as W/M with jeans, blue sweat shirt, hat and big sunglasses, 5’9”. Suspect ran away from scene northbound. Victim drove home to Delray Beach and called Delray Beach PD; however, she refused to meet with officers and did not want contact. Units checked area of 1620 S Federal and could not locate any other witnesses or suspect.

10-001287 1614 Hrs Possession Cocaine 300 NW 10th Ave

Officer Cooney arrested Dishaun Hodge after she was found to be in possession of 0.1 grams of crack cocaine. She was processed and turned over to PBSO Jail.

10-001294 1625 Hrs Cat Type Burglary 7105 Mahogany Drive

On 1/7/09 at approx 2000 hrs she observed her spare bedroom undisturbed. When she exited the residence at approx 1620 hrs she noticed the screen to the spare bedroom on the ground in front of her apartment door. She also noticed the window to the spare bedroom was unsecured (ajar). She then walked into the spare bedroom and observed a silver Vizio TV (NOI) along with a box which included 2 12” speakers (NOI) missing from the room. The drawers in the furniture had also been rummaged through as well as the closet. No other items appear to be missing.

Total value of loss $650.00. Crime scene was positive for latent prints.

W/M, David Ditenhafer, 10/29/70, arrested after he obstructed the arrest of another subject for a warrant arrest. As Ditenhafer was detained, he pushed the officer and took flight. Ditenhafer was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit. Ditenhafer had three Xanax pills in his possession without a prescription. TOT PBCJ.

10-00965 2013 hrs Burglary Residence 2100 NW 1st ST.

Victim reported that unknown persons broke into his vacant rental property, removing a kitchen sink and an A/C unit. Residence sustained water damage. Walls and countertops vandalized. Total loss is $7100.00. No suspect information.

Between 0800 hrs and 1700 hrs on 01-05-10 unknown suspect forced entry into residence by removing screen and opening window. Once inside suspect removed the following items: (1) Sony camera $400 (unknown serial number), (2) LG 39in flat screen television $1000 (unknown serial number), (3) 20kt gold necklace $200, (4) twenty dollars in U.S. currency, (5) a Chase check book $5 and (6) a pair of house keys $3. 10-000804 1820 hrs Burglary Auto 1670 Stone haven Drive

Between 2335 hrs on 01-04-10 and 0815 hrs on 01-05-10, unknown suspect forced entry into victims vehicle by forcing down the drivers side window. Once inside suspect removed $1 in change from the center console and the tire iron ($20 value) was taken from the trunk. Total loss is estimated at $21.00. No suspect info

10-000807 1836 hrs Warrant Arrest 18 Ridge point Drive

Acting on a BOLO from Ft. Lauderdale PD, Officer Cooney was able to track down B/B Emmanuel Curry at 18 Ridge point Drive. Curry had an outstanding warrant for: carjacking and burglary with battery. He was taken into custody without incident and turned over to PBSO Jail.

B/M Darrick Brown was arrested for a FTA warrant. He was processed and turned over to PBSO Jail.

10-000450 Distraction Theft 901 N.Congress Avenue

Officers responded to a reported theft at 901 N.Congress Avenue (Big Lots). Investigation revealed that the victim was shopping in the store when she felt an unknown black female bump in to her. Officers responded in reference to a delayed burglary to the residence. Victim advised that unknown persons entered his residence between 1100 hours and 2100 hours on today’s date by unknown means. Taken were three computers valued at approximately $6600.00. Crime Scene was negative and no suspect information was developed.

10-000528 Theft 2815 S.Seacrest Blvd (Bethesda Hospital)

Officers were conducting a separate investigation in ER Room#10 when Detective Athol observed the suspect concealing medical supplies valued at $50.00 inside her purse. Bethesda Staff signed a sworn statement and the medical supplies were recovered. Subject turned over to the Palm Beach County Jail as she had no identification and no permanent residential address.

Victim advised that she was walking home from S. Seacrest Blvd. She noticed a male subject following her from S. Suspect was located by officer Lagor at 600 SW 1st Street.

Also in their possession were two tablets of Oxycodone which they attempted to eat while being arrested. Both were processed and sent to county jail.

09-65635 2042 hrs Auto Theft (Update) 1076 SW 26th Avenue

Delray Beach PD advised that the blue ’99 Dodge Caravan bearing FL tag L921BJ stolen on 12-28-09 had been used in two purse snatch robberies in their city today (DBPD case #09-33322 & #09-33325). DBPD had info that the vehicle and/or suspect was in the area of 2208 SE 4th Street. Units from both agencies set up in the area and observed the minivan. The suspect, w/m Gregory B Hertz DOB 07-26-72 was observed entering and exiting the minivan and was subsequently arrested for the GTA by BBPD officers. DBPD advised that the victims’ from one of their cases had positively identified Hertz as the perpetrator. Hertz was also found to be in possession of property from the robberies. DBPD took possession of Hertz charging him with the robberies. The minivan was removed from FCIC/NCIC.

W/F Melissa A Morgan DOB 07-08-89 and W/M Stephen S Schradin DOB 09-10-86 were arrested after they intentionally struck the victim’s bicycle with their SUV causing the victim to fall off his bike. The victim received minor injuries. Schradin then exited the SUV and battered the victim with his fists. Two witnesses called 911 and the pair was arrested in the 900 block of NW 11th Avenue. Both were sent to county jail. The SUV was held for forfeiture.

09-64934 0517 hrs. 400 NE 10th Ave. Robbery (Strongarm)

Victim called BBPD at approx. 0515 in ref. to a robbery that occurred in the area of 400 NE 10th Ave. at approx. 0400 hrs. Victim told officers that he was in the area visiting a friend and was leaving towards home in W. Palm Bch. when he heard a strange noise coming from his vehicle and pulled over. Victim pulled over to investigate the noise and stated that three unidentified b/m’s approached him and asked him for money. Victim told the three b/m’s that he did not have any money and got punched in the face. Once on the ground, the other two b/m’s jumped on victim and began punching him as well. Victim advised the three b/m’s took the gold chain he was wearing around his neck and his wallet and fled the area. Victim then, for unknown reasons, drove to Lake Worth and remained there for approx. 45 mins. before returning to Boynton Bch. and deciding to report the incident. Victim did have superficial scrapes on his face and knees but was unable to provide any description of suspects for officers. Victim refused to give officers a statement (written/taped) and stated he just wanted to go home.

A motorcycle travelling south on N. Congress Ave struck a vehicle travelling north. The vehicle made a left turn in the motorcycle’s path. Both driver and passenger of the motorcycle were thrown approximately 140 feet forward. Both riders were wearing helmets. They were taken to Delray Trauma, injuries appeared to be non life threatening. Charges are pending investigation results.

Victim heard a car door open, and upon looking outside, saw 1 unk. b/m standing outside his wife’s 1995 Green Ford bearing Fl tag M260MZ. He then noticed another b/m inside the vehicle. Both subjects fled jumping the fence into the Sand and Sea development, upon seeing the victim. Taken were a radar detector and a prox/swipe card. Vehicle had been left unlocked.

09-65210 0029 hrs Aggravated Assault 128 S. Atlantic Dr. W.

B/M (victim) Hall, Christopher (DOB 8/9/86) stated He was walking home north on Seacrest Blvd when a blue or purple PT Cruiser (unk tag) pulled up along side him and B/M Delroy Cole (DOB 1/3/90) rolled down the driver side window and pointed a 'chopper' (AK Rifle) at him and stated he should “kill him for snitching” (referring to previous incident 09-65059). Hall fled the area and vehicle was last seen south on N. Seacrest Blvd. A check of all areas was negative.

09-065046 Recovered Stolen Vehicle 108 NE 20 Ave.

Officers responded to 108 NE 20 Ave. regarding a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle, red 1990 Toyota Camry had been reported stolen earlier this date from the Tri-Rail station located at 2800 High Ridge Road. The vehicle was recovered unoccupied. The vehicle was towed and the owner notified.

09-065059 Aggravated Assault with a Firearm 121 NW 10 Ave. #B

At 2028 hours, Officers responded to 121 NW 10 Ave. in reference to shots fired. Units meet with victims Christopher Hall who stated he had gone to this address to visit his son and bring him Christmas gifts when he was confronted by suspect B/M Delroy Cole. Cole and Hall began arguing and Cole left the area. Cole then returned with an assault rifle. Hall ran in fear for his life when he heard at least two shots fired. Hall stated that Cole then fled on foot in leaving the area.

09-065061 Warrant Arrest 501 SW 1 Court

At 2119 hours, Officers were investigating a disturbance involving B/M Karl Gross dob 11/13/1981 over a cell phone when he was found to have three outstanding warrants for his arrest out of PBSO for FTA regarding domestic battery and criminal mischief. The warrants were confirmed and Gross was transported to the Palm Beach County Jail.

09-065073 Armed Robbery 312 E. Boynton Beach Blvd.

At 2135 hours, units responded to 312 E. Boynton Beach Blvd. (Accessories and More) regarding an Armed Robbery where three black males dressed in black wearing masks entered the store armed with a gun and demanded money. One of the suspects grabbed the victim’s purse which contained her bible, and $750.00 cash, cell phone and gift cards from the business. All three suspects fled the scene running southeast. The incident was captured on video, but could not be viewed or obtained at this time.

09-065120 Poss. of Cocaine w/Intent to sell 100 W. Gateway Blvd.

Officer Mulcahy stopped a 1994 Chevy Caprice for multiple traffic violations. The front passenger H/M Leonardo Millan was reaching towards the floorboard of the car at the time of the stop. All occupants were removed from the vehicle at which time a clear sandwich bags was located on the passenger floorboard in plain view that contained six smaller bags of powder cocaine. Millan was arrested for poss. w. intent to sell cocaine and was TOT to the Palm Beach County Jail.

09-065096 DUI Arrest 400 SE 10 Ave.

Officer Murphy was responding to a reckless driver when he noticed the vehicle traveling at a high speed past him. Murphy was able to catch up to the vehicle and conduct a traffic stop. The driver H/M Romel Velasquez was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Velasquez refused to submit to road side sobriety tasks and was arrested. Velasquez subsequently refused to submit to a breath test. He was processed and transported to the Palm Beach County Jail.

09-64068 1930 hrs Police Assist (FEC Police) 400 S FEC

Officers responded to the area in reference to a report of a pedestrian struck by a southbound train. BBFR located a black male with no vital signs lying to the east of the railroad tracks. FEC Police responded and notified the County Medical Examiner’s Office. The male did not have any forms of identification on his person. The train’s conductor advised it appeared the male was attempting to beat the train across the tracks. FEC is following-up with the investigation.

B/M Billy A Cobb DOB 10-07-84 was found to be in possession of marijuana <20 grams following a loitering investigation. Cobb was processed and released with a NTA. Cobb’s 17 year old friend was arrested for trespass after warning. Officers also located a small amount of crack cocaine on the juvenile.

W/M Ryan F Crofutt DOB 04-12-85 was arrested after he clenched his fists and motioned as if he was about to punch the investigating Officers. Crofutt had been lawfully detained for riding a bike without a headlight. Crofutt made statements that it would take an army to get him in the police car. Crofutt was processed and sent to county jail.

Cesar, Jean (b/m 3-16-78) was arrested in reference to an outstanding arrest warrant. He was processed and TOT PBCJ.

09-64655 1959 hrs Burglary Cat Type 34 Misty Meadows Dr

Between 1330 and 1600 hrs victim received a delivery from UPS, which was placed inside his open garage next to his open interior door. Shortly after the delivery he noticed that his wallet and cellular phone were stolen from the counter, adjacent to the open interior door. The victim checked his accounts and found, that within a half hour of the delivery, several charges were made to his accounts. Crime scene was negative. Estimated amount of stolen items is $445. The amount, location, and quantity of charges is as of yet unknown. At this time no contact has been made with UPS in regards to identifying their employee.

09-64666 2104 hrs Burglary Auto 1035 W Gateway Blvd

Between 2030 and 2100 hrs the victim’s vehicle was broken into by having a window smashed out. Stolen from the vehicle was a lap top computer, two bags, and a day planner, and other miscellaneous items. The total loss is estimated at $5239. Crime scene responded and was able to lift partial latent prints from the vehicle and a hypodermic syringe that was left at the scene. A witness observed a slender black male flee from the area, but could not identify the subject.

Victim stated that between 1500 hrs and 1530 hrs unknown person(s) entered her unlocked red ’09 Ford Explorer while she shopped at Kohl’s. Taken from the SUV were a bowling ball carrier ($200.00), three 16lb bowling balls ($500.00) and a pair of Dexter bowling shoes ($169.00). Also taken were a Magellan GPS ($300.00) and two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses ($450.00). Victim did not discover the items were missing until she returned home.

A 16 year old male was arrested after he was observed concealing $111.00 worth of merchandise (T-shirts and fishing equipment) from Wal-Mart. The teen was processed and released to his parents.

Victim stated that a female friend whom he knows for only a couple of days came by for a visit. Victim stated he noticed that his cars keys were missing. Moments later the friend stated she was going outside to smoke a cigarette. When victim went outside to check on the friend he observed her driving his silver ’02 Ford Taurus bearing FL tag I271LC away. The car was entered into FCIC/NCIC as stolen.

Victim stated that between 1245 hrs and 1630 hrs unknown person(s) entered her residence by removing a screen from a rear bedroom window. It should be noted that the unknown suspect(s) did not take/touch any of her electronic equipment.

While shopping at Publix, between 1600 and 1651 hrs, the elderly female victim had her wallet stolen out of her purse. Video shows a light skinned black female reaching into the victim’s purse while it was in the shopping cart unattended. Total loss is estimated at $601.

10-year-old Boy Hit by Car 1700 Blk of Congress

A 10-year-old boy was taken via trauma alert to Delray Medical Center after he was struck by a car in the 1700 block of North Congress Avenue. The crash occurred at 11:08 a.m. in front of the Catalina Center. The northbound lanes of Congress Avenue from the 1600 block to the 1800 block are closed to traffic at this time. Drivers are asked to take alternate routes.

WHAT: PBSO Corrections Deputies came together with the desire to give back to the community this Holiday Season.

Deputies reached out for the Place of Hope and learned the names of 40 children who were in need of gifts. They placed a Christmas tree in the jail and created 40 name tags with the children’s names, ages and wish lists. Deputies chose a tag, purchased the gift(s) on the wish list, wrapped and tagged the gift with the child’s name. Friday, December 18 at 11:00 am, Corrections Deputies will deliver the presents and bicycles to the Place of Hope.

Reilly, David (w/m 5-11-91) was arrested for soliciting without a permit after he was found soliciting in the above area after having already been warned by officers. He was processed and TOT PBCJ.

09-63599 1811 hrs Traffic Crash- Fatality 200 blk W Boynton Beach Blvd

Units responded to a reported vehicle versus pedestrian collision. BBFD transported the elderly female pedestrian who was pronounced dead a short time later at Delray’s Trauma center. See press release for further information.

09-63604 1819 hrs Theft 3200 Old Boynton Rd

Between 1430 and 1530 hrs the victim was shopping at Wal Mart, when suspect(s) unknown stole the wallet from her purse. The victim was not able to provide any suspect information, but did advise that one of her credit cards was used a short time later at Toys R Us. Wal Mart was not able to find any video of the theft due to the uncertainty of when and where the theft occurred within the store.

09-63615 1954 hrs Credit Card Fraud 1602 S Federal Hwy

Units responded to Josie’s Restaurant in reference to a subject having ordered a delivery of food with a stolen credit card number. Bank of America verified that the transaction was not authorized and that the actual card holder lived in Texas. Units responded to the address the food had been delivered to and arrested Nelson, Matthew (w/m 8-23-89). Nelson admitted obtaining the credit card number from his place of employment, which he refused to identify. He was processed and TOT PBCJ.

09-63658 0139 hrs Theft/ Poss Xanax/ Poss Marijuana Int 3200 Old Boynton Rd

While at Wal Mart units were made aware of two females who were stealing Wal Mart property. As the two exited the store they were taken into custody. Roberts, Tomika (b/f 12-21-79) and Pinkney, Chakeshia (b/f 6-16-88) were arrested for retail theft. Search incident to arrest Pinkney was found in possession of Xanax without a prescription. Roberts was processed and released with a NTA. Pinkney was TOT PBCJ. The vehicle the females had arrived in was occupied by Roland, John (b/m 1-20-68). He stated that the females had left additional property from Wal Mart in the vehicle, but was uncertain if it was stolen. While recovering, this additional stolen property, officers became aware of a marijuana blunt in the center console of the vehicle. While officers were recovering the blunt, Roland stated that he had “about a half ounce under the driver’s seat.” Investigation revealed the presence of 46.5 grams of marijuana. Upon seeing a marked police unit subjects ran from the area. Reed and Cobb were detained after a short foot pursuit. The juvenile was found hiding behind a landscaping trailer at the side of a private residence. None of the subjects could offer a lawful explanation for their presence or reason for flight, but each had a history of burglary. School Police advised there were no alarm activations. The school appeared to be secure.

There were no signs of forced entry and the victim believes that the suspect may have used a universal remote to gain entry. Crime was negative.

While officers were at the Tiki Tavern they became aware of an outstanding arrest warrant for Hughes, Timothy (w/m 9-12-55). He was taken into custody, processed, and TOT PBCJ.

09-63034 0554 hrs. Burglary/ Battery 1205 Mahogany Bay Dr.

Officers responded to 1205 Mahogany Bay Drive in ref. to a burglary/battery/false imprisonment. Upon arrival officers met with Vict. Brandon Filosa who advised that a neighbor known to him as James Killings 03/29/87 knocked on his front door and approached him about possibly burglarizing his and his girlfriend Heather Barnett’s 01/13/87 residence at 1305 Mahogany Bay Dr. Killings punched Filosa in the face while several of his friends later identified as LeCorry Walker 10/18/81, Alvin Martin 07/27/81 pushed Filosa out of the residence and continued to battery him and hold him at this location while Barnett searched Filosa’s residence for possible stolen property. After no property was located, the assailants vacated Filosa’s residence. The aforementioned suspects were located throughout the residence and crawl space in the attic and were transported to BBPD and further charged with the aforementioned charges and tot PBCJ.

09-63044 0811 hrs. Stolen/ Recovered Vehicle 1500 Stonehaven Drive

Officers responded to 1500 Stonehaven Drive in ref. to a possible stolen beige 1995 Nissan Maxima bearing FL tag N37-9UK which according to Vict. was parked in the parking lot at the above location.

Owner/ Vict. Advised that he parked the vehicle in the parking lot at approx. 0500 hrs. this date and when he exited his res. to check on his vehicle he found same to be missing. Vict. advised that he did not lend out or give any person(s) permission to take same. As officers were taking this report, victim’s aforementioned vehicle was located in Delray Beach and was supposedly involved in an accident. Investigation into this incident continues.

He is suspected of several burglary/fraud incidents in Palm Beach County since May 2009.

Detectives believe he broke into a locker at LA Fitness in Boynton Beach on May 13 and stole a man’s credit cards and driver license from his wallet. He then used the victim’s credit card to buy more than $2,000 in electronics at a Best Buy in West Palm Beach. He attempted to use the credit card again at a Target in Royal Palm Beach. It was declined, so he paid with cash.

The same man is suspected of taking credit cards from two LA Fitness locations, one in Boca Raton and one in Boynton Beach, on November 14. He was able to use one of the credit cards later that day at a Target in Boynton Beach, where he bought $1,262 worth of merchandise. Surveillance video from the May 13 fraud shows the man leaving Target in Royal Palm Beach and walking through the parking lot to a waiting Ford F250 STX. He is seen putting a container in the bed of the truck and getting into the passenger’s side. The truck leaves the parking lot, its license plate covered with a tarp. Impulse Purchase / Adoption of Pets

Holiday time finds us looking for “just the right gift” for our family and friends – and many of us feel a live animal is the answer. Who can resist a cute puppy or kitten up for adoption or purchase? Their sweet little faces look up at us and their eyes plead with us “take me home”.

But impulse pet purchase or adoption is not ideal when considering that this is a living, breathing creature. An impulse purchase means that there is not enough thought beyond the desire of the moment. Pets are not disposable commodities.

You should never purchase or adopt a pet as a surprise for someone. This person may not be prepared for an animal even if they say they would like one. They may want to select their own – which is the preferred way to make such a gift. Instead, give a dog lead, a cat toy or a bird cage to the recipient so they have time to shop along with you for the right pet.

Don’t buy a pet “for the children” as the children will not take care of it – no matter how many promises you get from them. If you are considering a pet, be aware that you will probably wind up as primary caretaker (there are some exceptions – but very few) – so make sure it’s a pet you want too!

There are many questions to ask yourself when you see the puppy or kitten / rabbit or bird in the store or at an adoption shelter. Many adoption groups are wise enough not allow you to take an animal as a “storefront adoption” – after filling out an application to adopt, they insist on visiting you at your home to see that you are properly prepared to take care of that animal. They should also be able to provide you with a list of supplies that you will need for that pet so you can prepare for it before it comes into your home.

Here are some of the questions you will need to answer before getting a pet:

Do you have time for a pet? All pets must be kept clean and fed, with fresh water changes daily. Some need to be walked. They need to be played with and socialized. Many need training. Are you prepared for all that time that you will have to devote on a daily basis?

Can you make a commitment to the animal? This includes considering the length of time this pet will be with you – whether 15 years for a dog or cat or 50 plus years for a bird. This is a “forever home” you are providing for that animal as they form bonds with their family and should not be discarded like a piece of clothing or furniture after you become tired or disenchanted.

Do you have room for a pet? Figure the type of pet you are considering and how much room it will need in your home. Do you have to set up a crate or an aquarium? Do you need a large, fenced in yard? Can you manage a 5 lb. pet or can you provide for a 100 lb. animal?

What is your lifestyle? Do you have Persian rugs and antique furniture? Animals can have accidents in the house and mess up your décor. Many have chewed on the dining room table leg – and shed hair on the velvet sofa. They are there 24 / 7 for you to care for – do you often go on vacation or away for the weekend? Do you have small children – other pets? Which pet will fit your lifestyle?

Can you financially afford a pet? Pets cost money – after the initial purchase or adoption fee you have vet bills (at least annually) and food to purchase. You have vaccines for many along with flea and heartworm treatment for certain pets – there’s a possibility of emergency room visits and prescription medicines for the animal. Sometimes there is an extra fee for having a pet in your apartment or condo. If you are often away, it will mean the cost of boarding or finding a pet sitter. All that and treats, toys and other things you will want for your animal.

Are you willing to train your pet? Some pets need formal training – some you can train yourself. But a well trained pet is more readily accepted by friends and neighbors than one that is out of hand. This is true of a bird that flies around the room dive-bombing guests or dogs that are aggressive or bold. You need to assume the role of the Alpha creature in the house.

Do you want a young / older animal? A puppy or a kitten is irresistible – and it is fun watching the animal grow from puppy or kitten stages to adulthood -- but they have issues as they grow. They need to be potty trained -- you will have puppy teeth ripping at your clothing and your skin -- you will have missing shoes and laundry – and knick knacks will often be knocked over with “happy tail”. Can you deal with this for the first year or so of your pet ownership or do you want an animal more accustomed to living in a home?

Do you have a car big enough to transport your animal? Should you need emergency medical care or just routine vet visits – or if you need to evacuate due to a hurricane – do you have room in your vehicle to take the animal(s) that depend on you?

Have you done your research? Have you taken the time to read about the pet you are considering purchasing or adopting? Do you know how big that puppy is going to get when full grown and are you cognizant of the behavior and needs of that particular breed of dog? Do you know where the local vet is who is familiar with that type or breed of animal? Have you located your emergency vet in case it’s necessary to rush there at 3 o’clock on a Sunday morning? Do you know how much grooming the pet needs – where a professional groomer is located nearby? Have you investigated day care or pet sitters in your area?

How you go about making this important decision with your family -- what preparation you make for the new family member will enable your children to realize that this is a wonderful experience for all of you – one that lasts the lifetime of that pet.

The Cove detail officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for multiple traffic violations. The driver, Daniel Ilomaki (05/02/85), admitted to possessing pills in the vehicle. Located in the vehicle in plain view was paraphernalia for smoking pills and one “Roxy.” Ilomaki was arrested and transported to the Palm Beach County Jail. The vehicle is being held pending possible forfeiture.

More than 100 children to Shop with a Cop this holiday season
The Boynton Beach Police Department is pleased to announce its 4th annual Shop with a Cop. Theevent will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at Super Wal-Mart, 3200 OldBoynton Road in Boynton Beach.

More than 100 children from five elementary schools, the Lord’s Place and the Boynton Beach Police Athletic League will team up with police officers to shop for holiday presents. Each child will receive a $100 gift card to use in the store. They will also be treated to demonstrations by the BBPD’s K-9, Motor and Marine units.

The children were selected from Galaxy Elementary School, Poinciana Elementary School, Cross
Pointe Elementary School, Forest Park Elementary School and Rolling Green Elementary School.
Shopping times with officers are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Members of the media will be allowed to video/photograph inside the store as the children shop.

BBPD officers will barbecue lunch for the children, with food donated by Wal-Mart and Golden
Corral. Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance with identifying suspects wanted for Armed Robbery to a Business

On Monday, December 7, 2009, approximately 9:10 am, two males entered the Universal Wireless store located at 4469 S. Congress Ave, Lake Worth and approached the clerk with questions regarding a couple of phones. As the clerk attempted to assist the males, one of the males pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun, pointed it at the clerk and ordered the clerk to the back room. The suspects took cash from the safe, register and a drawer and fled in an unknown direction.

The suspects were identified as:

1) Hispanic male, 5’09”, 180 lbs, mid 20 to 30’s, muscular build with green eyes, short medium brown hair and facial hair.
2) Black male, 5’11”, 150 lbs, mid 20’s, skinny, dark complexion, clean shaven, and wearing a black dread sock with some short dreads visible on his forehead.

Officer initiated a traffic stop for an equipment violation. A search of the vehicle was conducted based upon the odor of Marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver, Diego Taylor (01/02/91), was subsequently arrested for Possession of Marijuana under 20 Grams when 4.6 grams of Marijuana was recovered from the driver seat. He was released with a Notice to Appear.

09-62104 2204 hrs Poss Scheduled Drug 100 W MLK Blvd

Officers attempted to stop Lewis, Willie (b/m 3-18-85) due to his trespassing on the property at 113 W MLK Blvd. As officers attempted to stop Lewis, he took flight. After a short foot pursuit Lewis was arrested for resisting arrest w/out violence (by flight). Search incident to arrest revealed the presence of several Xanax bars. Lewis was additionally charged with possessing a scheduled drug without a prescription. He was processed and TOT PBCJ.

09-62105 2208 hrs Strong Arm Robbery 1634 S Federal Hwy

Units responded to the Walgreens in reference to a reported strong arm robbery. Investigation revealed that a b/m 6’, 200 lbs (NFI), had stolen personal hygiene items. When the store manager attempted to stop the suspect, he shoved the manager out of the way and fled on foot to the south west. Total loss is estimated at less than $10.

Hit and Run involving a child

Boynton Beach Police are investigating a hit and run involving a child at the intersection of Southwest 9th Avenue and Southwest 3rd Street.
Two children were riding electric motor scooters westbound in the roadway on Southwest 9th Avenue at 12:48 p.m. Sunday when they were struck by a vehicle.
One child received minor injuries. The other child is in extremely critical condition and was taken to Delray Medical Center.
The vehicle fled but was quickly located. The driver has been detained. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
Witnesses are urged to call the Boynton Beach Police Department at 742-6100. Anonymous tips can be submitted via www.bbpd.org

The young girl killed in today's hit and run has been identified as Darness Brown (dob 3/30/99) of 405 SW 8th Avenue in Boynton Beach. The girl who was with her, Darneisha Sellis (dob 8/30/96 and same address), suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the maroon Honda SUV that struck them is identified as Leticia Flores (dob 5/8/81) of 319 SW 9th Avenue in Boynton Beach. She has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash with death and driving without a license causing death. Other charges are pending. Flores was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail.

Traffic Homicide Investigators said that Flores was driving to her house on SW 9th Avenue when she struck the two girls. She got out of her car, walked over and noticed the injured children and said she went back to her car to get her phone. Instead, she drove away.

Her vehicle was seen pulling into the parking lot of a 7-11 on Woolbright Road. She got out of her car, noticed officers approaching her and continued toward the store in an attempt to buy a drink. She later told investigators that she did not stop to call police because she knew there were people at the scene of the crash, including a woman performing CPR on Darness Brown, who would call 911.

Witnesses to today's crash are asked to call Traffic Homicide Investigator Matthew Zeller at 742-6826.

W/F Kaitlin Seldon DOB 01-31-85 was arrested after she stole an $80.00 leather jacket from Sears at the Mall. A search incident to arrest revealed that Seldon had a 1” x 1” plastic bag of methamphetamines. Seldon was processed and sent to county jail.

09-61880 1948 hrs Warrant Arrest 206 SW 1st Street

W/M Francisco Diego DOB 08-30-83 was found to have an outstanding FTA warrant from PBSO. Diego was sent to county jail after the warrant was confirmed.

09-61931 0125 hrs Battery on L.E.O. 315 NW 3rd Street

B/M Melvin Brown DOB 08-31-63 was arrested after he took a boxing stance and threatened to fight officers who were there to investigate a verbal dispute. As officers were taking Brown into custody, he kicked one officer in the shin (uninjured). Brown was processed and sent to county jail.

09-61939 0256 hrs Vehicle Fire 515 NE 2nd Street

Officer arrived to find a blue ’01 Chevy Impala fully engulfed in flames on the driveway. BBFD quickly extinguished the fire. The Fire Marshall was requested to investigate the fire’s cause. The owner and her family were temporarily evacuated from their residence.

09-61721 1959 Arson 301 W. Boynton Beach Blvd., (Galaxy Park)

Units responded to a fire at the park restroom facilities. On arrival, officers discerned that there was no structural fire, but someone had lit a tissue paper roll on fire and left it on the floor of a bathroom stall. The ensuing smoke caused extensive smoke damage within the restroom, coating everything in black soot. BBFR and the Fire Marshal responded. No suspect information.

09-61764 0116 Aggravated Battery with Knife 2 Fenwick PL.

W/M, Mark Scammell, 3/10/79, arrested after investigation revealed he assaulted a roommate with a knife after a verbal argument. The victim wrestled the knife away from Scammell and sustained a small laceration on his hand for his efforts. Scammell sustained a laceration on his head from striking it on a table during the confrontation. Scammell was TOT PBCJ after medical clearance.

09-61620 0658 hrs 100 New Lake Dr Burglary Auto (attempt)

A green Dodge mini-van with an open rear door was located by Ofc’s on extra patrol within the Cove. Contact was made with the owner who advised that the vehicle was definitely secured when parked last night. Victim was unable to advise what if anything was missing from within and no sign of forced entry was observed.

W/M Hugo Lopez- 9/6/74 was found in the area harassing residents. He advised Officers that he had been on an all night crack cocaine binge, but had several incongruent stories as to why he was there. Failing to dispel the Officer’s fear that he had or was about to commit a crime, he was arrested for L&P. Search incident to arrest revealed that Lopez was in possession of over $800.00 in cash. He was TOT the PBCJ as he could not provide ID or a local address.

Victim’s 1995 green Honda Accord (FL-N330UG) was stolen from the parking lot between the hours of 2100 and 0700. The victim has the only known keys and the vehicle was not on the tow log. N/FCIC entry completed.

09-61666 1327 hrs Congress/ Gateway Agg. Assault Firearm/ Improper Exhibition

W/M Douglas Kayman- 11/5/57 was arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm (.357 revolver) and improper exhibition of a firearm after he threatened and pointed the gun at the victim during a road-rage incident. After a felony stop of his vehicle, the victim positively identified Kayman and the firearm. He was subsequently TOT the PBCJ and his Dodge Stratus was held for forfeiture.

Victim was sitting on her front porch when a red, newer model, pick up truck pulled up to her residence. A Hispanic female exited the passenger side and engaged her in conversation as if she was familiar with victim. The Hispanic male driver, described as being in his 30’s approximately 5’10”, then obtained permission to enter the residence to use the bathroom. When he exited, he and the female left and were last seen east bound on Boynton Beach Blvd. The victim then inspected her residence and noticed $500 cash and multiple pieces of jewelry missing. Total loss is $700. Crime scene was negative.

When deputies arrived they met with Mr. Carcamo’s sister who advised that Hugo left the residence at 6:00 am on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, was headed towards Stuart to a car auction and has not been seen or heard from since.

He was driving a white 2001 Ford Ranger Extended Cab- has unassigned tag of K209PV

He frequents the Drexel RD Area

Kevin O’Carroll is wanted for committing several burglaries throughout Palm Beach County.

O’Carroll recently failed to show up for a bond hearing. As a result he has two Felony FTA Warrants for his arrest for Burglary to a Structure/ Fleeing/Criminal Mischief/Theft/Resisting.

The most recent burglaries he was involved in was 11/20/09 - at Target in Greenacres where he stole a 22 inch VIZIO flat screen and again on 11/20/09, Jupiter PD had a burglary at European Unique Foods on Indiantown Road where O’Carroll’s vehicle was involved and Fled Jupiter PD.

As a result of other burglary investigations, probable cause has been developed on O’Carroll for another business burglary in PBSO jurisdiction. He is also a suspect in several other business burglaries. He has an extensive criminal history.

Juvenile victim (16 YOA) was walking in his neighborhood when he was approached by a tall thin black male (short afro, black shirt, blue shorts). The male pointed his hand at the victim, which appeared to contain an unknown item, and demanded all of his possessions. Victim turned over a gold necklace, a Motorola cell phone, and $500.00 cash tucked in his waistband. The male then ran to a small dark colored vehicle and fled the area eastbound.

Units responded in reference to someone having entered the vacant residence by removing a window. The owner of the property stated that there was no damage and that nothing had been stolen. He further stated that he believes homeless subjects may have been trying to escape the cold weather and broken into the residence.

Between 1600 and 2000 hrs suspect(s) unknown broke into victim’s vehicle by shattering a back window. Stolen was her purse which had by lying on the back seat. Total loss is $128. Crime scene was negative.

09-60352 0054 hrs Armed Home Invasion 106 NE 4th Ave

Units responded to a suspicious incident. Investigation revealed that two black males knocked on the door of this residence. When the victims opened the door the suspects forced their way in wielding handguns. Two of the victims were pistol whipped, while the suspects demanded the Latin victims give them “dinero”. The suspects stole one folder containing documents and fled in an unknown direction. Victims refused medical attention. D-bureau notified. Crime scene was negative.

Units were responding to the above area in reference to a report of shots fired. Upon arrival OIC Adams and Ofc Lagor observed Merzier, Fedner (b/m 5-11-90) walking away placing both hands into his waistband. Believing that he may be concealing a weapon they attempted to detain him. Merzier fled on foot. After a short chase, and Merzier removing his outer shirts, he was taken into custody. As he was taken into custody he spontaneously uttered that he did not have a gun. A search of the area failed to reveal the presence of a weapon. Merzier was arrested for R/A w/out violence. He was processed and released with a NTA.

At 1545 hrs victim was inside her residence when she heard a window shatter. She immediately responded to the area and found the window broken and the curtain pulled outside of the residence. It appears that the burglar did not realize she was home and fled upon hearing her respond to the sound of the broken glass. Crime scene was negative and a search of the area was unable to locate the suspect(s).

Between 1100 and 1917 hrs suspect(s) unknown broke into victim’s residence and stole a 25” Toshiba television $250 value. Entry was made by shattering a sliding glass door. Crime scene was able to lift one latent print from a mirror adjacent to the point of entry. Total loss is estimated at $650.

Units responded in reference to a burglary to a shed in progress. Upon arrival a perimeter was set up and K9 attempted a track, which met with negative results. Investigation revealed that the home owner had turned on all of the residence’s lights and scared the suspect away prior to his being able to steal any property from the shed. Crime scene was negative and no suspect information was available.

Wanted for Burglary of Motor City Car

Boynton Beach Police need the public’s help identifying a man who burglarized the Motor City Car Wash early this morning. The suspect used a landscaping rock to smash out a window and enter the store at 3900 Hypoluxo Road. Once inside, he went behind the counter and stole a small lock box containing an undisclosed amount of cash.

Victim stated that between 2359 hrs on 11-20 and 1645 hrs this date unknown person(s) entered his black ’97 Toyota Corolla by smashing the windshield. Taken from the car was a Panasonic car stereo ($150.00).

09-59415 2217 hrs Possession of Contraband 324 NE 13th Ave

Officers responded in reference to a suspicious vehicle in the driveway of an abandoned residence. Upon arrival, officers located Joshua Smith (08/08/89) standing in the driveway smoking marijuana. Smith was arrested for Possession of Marijuana. An inventory search of the vehicle revealed 2 alprazolam pills and additional marijuana in the center console of the vehicle. Smith was sent to the Palm Beach County Jail and the vehicle held pending possible forfeiture.

Mary Emery 48, was on a 10-day drinking binge; she was told she had to vacate the temporary quarters she was staying at [primarily due to her drinking]. Mary then concocted a story of sexual assault which she reported to dispatch. Mary’s story was quickly dispelled as fabricated, and she was taken into custody under The Marchman Act; TOT CARP

Officers responded to Motor City Carwash in reference to an audible alarm. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a window had been smashed out with a landscaping rock. A check of the business revealed that $400.00 had been stolen from underneath the counter. Video surveillance of the business currently being reviewed. Crime Scene responded for processing. W/M Nicolas Molden DOB 11-04-85 was arrested after he refused to pay for a cab which took him from the Tri-Rail Station in West Palm Beach to the Homing Inn. Molden then went after and threatened the cab driver with a hammer. Molden was sent to county jail.

PBSO is actively working a shooting in the City of Lake Worth..PBSO received a 911 call of a shooting in the 100 block of “K” Street about 6:50pm. Deputies found a B/M adult victim in the alley with a gunshot wound to the arm. The victim was transported to JFK Hospital with non life threatening injuries. Deputies are looking for a B/M suspect that is approx 6’ tall average weight and wearing a blue top who was last seen getting into a white vehicle. There is no motive for this shooting at this time. Detectives are on their way to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call PBSO at 688-3400 or Crimestoppers at 800-458-TIPS.

BBPD launches new DUI campaign

It’s Ladies Night in Boynton Beach. But if you drink and drive, the only ladies you’ll meet are the ones who put you behind bars.

That’s the message behind the Boynton Beach Police Department’s new DUI campaign.
In an effort to curb drinking and driving this holiday season, the BBPD has teamed up with Mother’s Against Drunk Driving to produce 10,000 glossy postcards that are currently being distributed to every restaurant, bar and store in the city that serves or sells alcohol.

Female officers from the BBPD will be conducting a saturation patrol looking for people driving under the influence in the city from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., on Wednesday, November 25, 2009. “The whole idea behind this is that you don’t want to meet our ladies because it’s not going to be a good time,” said DUI Officer Patrick Monteith. “Our goal is to get people talking about this campaign,
to get them to make that conscious decision not to drink and drive, to save their life and the lives of those who might be sharing the road with them that night.”

The campaign is sponsored by the Jessica Johnson Kirkpatrick Memorial. The 19-year-old girl was killed by a drunken driver in February 2005 in Orlando. Her parents, Barbara and Steve Kirkpatrick, are victim advocates and serve on the leadership committee of the Palm Beach County chapter of MADD.

Several calls of a subject falling from a window were received. Upon arrival, a 6 YOA girl was found lying on the sidewalk in an apparent fall from her second floor window. Initial reports indicated she accidentally fell when she pushed against the window screen, however; one resident thought she saw a struggle with an adult male prior to the fall. Dbureau notified and responded. Investigation revealed that the incident was accidental. The child sustained a broken femur, dislocated shoulder, and a laceration to her chin.

W/M, Christopher Jenkins, 08/11/82, arrested after he stealthily entered an attached fenced in storage area of BMT Discount Beverage by climbing over the wall. He appeared to be standing on two milk crates in an attempt to climb onto the roof of the business to possibly enter the business through the roof, however; was interrupted by police.

On Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at approximately 2:40 am a burglary occurred at the Advanced Auto Parts store located at 1208 South Dixie Highway, Lake Worth. Two suspects, one black male and one either black or dark skinned Hispanic male, used an object to break the glass doors and gain entry to the store. Once inside they removed money from the cash register and fled the area. This is the second time these suspects burglarized this business. The first time was Monday, September 14, 2009, at approximately 2:20 am.

In the past two months there have been three burglaries to businesses on South Dixie Highway, Lake Worth. In all three of these burglaries the suspects used an object to break the glass of a business in order to gain entry.

09-58770 1901 hrs Possession w/ Intent, Assault LEO 201 NW 9th Ct

Officers were conducting an extra patrol in Sara Simms park when they observed Taylor, Michael (b/m 4-6-92 adjudicated adult) attempting to toss marijuana as he walked away from officers. Taylor was arrested, the 9 bags of marijuana he tossed recovered, and escorted to a police vehicle. While Taylor was being escorted to a patrol vehicle a large crowd turned hostile towards officers. Kelley, Joshua (b/m 4-6-91) threatened to “beat your asses you white motherfuckers” and advanced on officers in an aggressive manner. As officers attempted to arrest Kelley he took flight. After a brief foot pursuit Kelley slipped and was taken to the ground, where Kelley continued to resist officers. Kelley was arrested and charged with Assault on LEO (x2), and R/A w/out Violence. While officers were still struggling to handcuff Kelley, McCray, Barkavius (b/m 3-25-90) approached officers from behind yelling obscenities. McCray continued to advance on officers despite several orders to back away. As officers turned their attention to McCray, he attempted to punch Ofc Haugh. During the ensuing fight Ofc Haugh broke his hand. McCray was arrested and charged with R/A w/ Violence, and R/A w/out Violence. Allen, James (b/m 3-10-60) was arrested for Inciting a Riot when he continued to encourage the crowd to close on officers and disobey lawful orders to disperse. Carpenter, Calvin (b/m 12-8-69) was arrested for R/A w/out Violence when his actions caused officers to focus their attention on him instead of the subjects they already had in custody. All subjects were TOT PBCJ.

Between 2025 and 2030 hrs suspect(s) unknown broke into victim’s vehicle by unknown means and stole his vehicle registration. Crime scene was negative.

09-58777 2054 hrs Att Armed Robbery 300 S Seacrest Blvd #4

Units responded in reference to a report of armed subjects inside the victim’s residence. Upon arrival the victim advised that the suspects had just fled out his back door. Reinhart, Karl (w/m 7-29-88) and Radka, Jeffrey (w/m 9-6-87) were detained in the 500 blk of S Seacrest Blvd. Reinhart had a Mossberg 12ga shotgun concealed in his pants. Radka had a .38 cal S&W revolver in the waistband of his shorts. Detained at the scene was Reinhart, Karen (w/f 1-17-62). Investigation revealed that Karen claims to have been ripped off in a drug deal with the victim. She, Karl, and Jeffrey devised a plan to get Karen’s money back by intimidating the victim with the recovered weapons. All three were arrested and TOT PBCJ.

Victim reported that unknown persons attempted to enter the residence via the front door between 0800hrs and 1700hrs. There were pry marks at the front door which are consistent with the burglaries at Islington Place.

09-58527 1802 hrs Burglary 36 Heather Cove Dr.

Victim reported unknown persons entered the residence between 0740hrs and 1745hrs via an unsecured bedroom window. Several electronic items and a watch were removed total loss $2750.00. Crime Scene negative.

09-58593 0049 hrs Burglary 716 NE 3rd Street

Officer observed a suspicious vehicle attempting to leave the fenced parking lot of Real Masters Property Preservation. As the officer approached to investigate, he observed a male, later identified as Marcus Wilson (01/27/84), jump the fence and run towards the railroad tracks. The officer also observed that the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Alvin Ceaser (06/16/84), had bailed out and run in an unknown direction. Inside the vehicle, officers located two weed eaters, one edger, a leaf blower and a hedge trimmer. A check of the area revealed that a landscape trailer had been burglarized with the padlock having been cut off. Officers located Wilson hiding along the railroad tracks and Cesar was located hiding under a trailer on the property. The property owner responded and confirmed that the items had been stolen from his landscape trailer. The total value of recovered items was $2125.00. Crime Scene and Detective Bureau responded. Both Cesar and Wilson were charged with Burglary, Grand Theft, Possession of Burglary Tools and Resisting Arrest w/o Violence and subsequently sent to the Palm Beach County Jail.

THIRD ANNUAL RUN FOR THE ANIMALS

West Palm Beach, FL – The Third Annual Run for the Animals will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Dreher Park, West Palm Beach. The 5K run will begin at 8 am (registration at 7 am) and the 5 k walk will be at 8:30 am. Additionally, there will be a one mile family / dog walk at 9 am.

This event is sponsored by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to benefit A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue, Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, and Greyhound Pets of America.

Featured at the event will be pets for adoption from local shelters and breed rescue organizations. There will also be a bounce house, clown and face painting for the children, and Tom Can’t Stop band for the musical enjoyment.

The Red Cross will demonstrate animal CPR at 10 am and 2 pm and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain will conduct the Blessing of the Animals at 11 am.

The PBSO Mounted Unit will be there, as will Clue and Bolo, the PBSO bloodhounds and Dillon, PBSO’s newest addition to the Animal Kindness Program – an Irish Wolfhound 9 month old puppy.

Have your photo taken with your pet for your 2009 Holiday Cards – or just for framing. Photographer will be available with Holiday decorations to make it festive for you and your pet. Pet trading cards will also be available to order.

Animal Care & Control will be there with the Neuter Commuter and will provide vouchers for reduced fee rabies shot, tag and microchip for sterilized pets.

Victim stated that he recently arrived from NJ to be married this Friday. At 1645 hrs he borrowed his friend’s blue ’05 Infiniti FX35 to shop at the Mall. When he returned to the car at 1745 hrs unknown person(s) had smashed the left rear window. Taken from the SUV was his leather briefcase ($175.00) which contained a diamond wedding band ($6500.00), a set of diamond earrings ($4000.00), an Apple 8G Ipod ($150.00), and a Cannon digital camera ($200.00). The unknown suspect(s) also rummaged through his luggage which was on the back seat and took some clothing.

Victim noticed that his entertainment cabinet had been opened along with some dresser drawers upon his arrival home.

Jeffery Estinfort, 22 yoa threatened his neighbor with a large kitchen knife. The incident started with the two exchanging glances and courtesies such as “What are you lookin at”. Naturally, Estinfort said he would go get a knife to continue the discussion. He did so, and returned in a threatening manner.

W/M Jason B DeLeon DOB 03-01-81 was arrested after investigation revealed he stole an Apple Mac laptop ($1500.00) from the victim’s unlocked black ’06 Honda CRV which was parked at the pool in Willowbrook. Investigation also revealed that DeLeon had taken a 10” Laser Compound Miter saw ($200.00) from another victim’s open garage at 60 Cedar Lane. See case #09-56607. DeLeon was sent to county jail.

W/M David J Cinnirella DOB 03-27-79 was found to have three (3) outstanding warrants from PBSO following a traffic stop. Two were for drug possession and the last for DWLS. Cinnirella was sent to county jail.

Officers investigating a traffic crash found Alonzo M. Shivers (8-15-83) in the area of the crash, intoxicated. Shivers was taken into custody for disorderly intoxication due to his creating a disturbance, disrupting the peace.

Between 2130 and 0800 victim’s 2000 Nissan Pathfinder was forcibly entered by smashing the window to gain entry. A stock in-dash stereo was taken.

Victim stated that between 1630 hrs on 11-05-09 and 1600 hrs this date unknown person(s) stole his blue ’92 Dodge Caravan bearing FL tag J666WXfrom the driveway of his residence. The vehicle was entered into FCIC/NCIC as stolen.

09-56472 2117 hrs Battery on LEO 204 SW 1st Street

Members of the Special Victims Unit (SVU) along with road patrol officers responded in reference to a probable cause pick-up of a suspect involved in a child sexual battery. Officers observed a male matching the suspect’s description in the front yard. When officers attempted to detain him, the male ran into the doorway and tried to lock out the officers. In hot pursuit the officers followed the suspect into the residence where he began to fight. Several other residents from the apartment also began to fight with officers. W/M Cristobol Mateo DOB 12-18-90, W/M Tomas Sebastian-Lorenzo DOB 02-24-82, and W/M Julio Mateo DOB 10-13-78 were charged with battery on LEO. Victim reported that he was in the front yard of the above residence when he was approached by two black males. The first produced a silver revolver and pointed it at the victim’s head while the second began searching the victim’s pockets. The victim fought back and stated that the two black males beat him with their fists. The suspects were able to steal the victim’s cellular phone and $3 in US currency. The victim waited over 40 minutes to report this incident due to wishing to confer with family prior to contacting police.

A Boynton Beach mail carrier is behind bars this afternoon for driving a U.S. Postal Service mail truck while under the influence of alcohol.

A breath test revealed that Kevin Michael Crocilla’s blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit (.264 and .258).

Police received a 911 call at 12:14 p.m. today after someone saw the mail truck parked on the side of the road on Northwest First Court. The driver appeared to be slumped over the wheel.

When officers arrived, it immediately became apparent that Crocilla, 29, was intoxicated. He fell asleep while officers were speaking to him, smelled of mouthwash and alcohol, couldn’t stand on his own and his eyes appeared red and watery.

He told officers with the Boynton Beach Police Department’s Traffic Unit that he drank wine all night and then drank half a bottle of mouthwash in an attempt to cover the smell.

Crocilla was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance with identifying a suspect wanted for

Armed Robbery

On Monday, November 2, 2009, at approximately 1:10 pm, a black female suspect posing as a customer was buzzed in by the owner/victim to the Jewelry Exchange located at 900 North Federal Highway, Lake Park. As the female suspect entered the business, she allowed her accomplices, 2-3 black male suspects, to enter into the building with her. The female suspect distracted the owner by inquiring about rings, while one of the male suspects walked around the counter, pointed an unknown type handgun at the victim and fired two rounds, missing the victim.

Prior to the incident, witnesses stated they observed a black female and two black males matching the description given by the victim sitting in a four door gold/beige Honda Accord who appeared to be casing the Shopping Plaza.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’5”–5’7” with dreads, wearing a black t-shirt and dark colored shorts and has a tattoo on one of his arms.

09-55798 2036 hrs Aggravated Battery/Assault 13 Southport Lane

W/M George G Arvay DOB 08-17-37 was arrested after he struck his roommate in the thigh several times with a crowbar following an argument. The roommate had invited two friends over and Arvay demanded that the friends leave. Arvay went after the couple with the crowbar; the roommate intervened and was struck in the thigh area. The roommate sustained several large bruises but refused any further medical attention other than provided by Fire Rescue. Arvay was sent to county jail charged with aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated assault.

Passing Counterfeit Checks

In October 2009, District 1 Detective Bureau initiated a large Identity Theft Investigation involving a yet to be identified black male. This B/M has been first assuming the identities of multiple identity theft victims. He then enters the identity theft victims banks located in Dade, Broward and/or Palm Beach Counties.

The B/M then conducts what is commonly known as a split deposit, in which he deposits counterfeit checks into the identity theft victim’s accounts and then withdraws a portion of the funds subsequently defrauding the banking institutions out of thousands of dollars.

Currently, there are multiple investigations in which the same B/M has been identified as the perpetrator.

On Saturday, October 17, 2009, the victim parked his vehicle in the premises of Okeeheelee Park, West Palm Beach. The suspects managed to enter the victim’s vehicle, remove the victims’ money and credit cards from his wallet as well as the wife’s credit cards and cash from her purse. The suspects left the wallet and purse behind and no signs of forced entry were noticed and or found. The suspects managed to charge several thousand dollars in less than two hours before the victims discovered they had been victimized.

The attached photos are from two different local establishments. The suspects were seen driving a small white minivan and were both described as being of Hispanic descent.

Police raid Boynton Beach strip club; dozens charged with racketeering, drug
sales and solicitation of prostitution

Drug sales, underage drinking, prostitution. It’s what goes on behind the doors of Platinum Showgirls.

At around 11 p.m. Friday night, Boynton Beach Police shut those doors – following an undercover investigation that resulted in more than 50 felony and misdemeanor charges against 30 employees for racketeering, trafficking in oxycodone, sale of cocaine, deriving support from proceeds of prostitution and felony public nuisance, among other crimes.

The adult entertainment business at 1115 N. Federal Highway also violated county ordinances by allowing many of their dancers to engage in prohibited activity, specifically lap dances, and to perform without work identification cards.
In addition, the club violated state law by allowing underage dancers to drink with customers and encouraging the performers to have clients buy them shots.

“This establishment has generated numerous complaints not only from the residential neighborhoods nearby, but from citizens throughout the city,” Police Chief G. Matthew Immler said.

“Tonight’s operation is the culmination of that investigation and the reduction of untoward illegal activity that adversely affects the safety of our citizens and the image of our city.”

The four-month investigation by the Boynton Beach Police Department’s Community Action Team and CRA Policing Unit, as well as the State Attorney’s Office and its Anti-Money Laundering Unit, stemmed from information that dancers in the club were selling prescription pain killers, powder cocaine, marijuana, amphetamines and morphine.

In June, undercover officers began going into the club to attempt to buy drugs. Within days, they were buying hundreds of dollars in cocaine and prescription painkillers from dancers. On numerous occasions, dancers offered to perform sexual acts on the undercover officers in private rooms. The dancers even went so far as to perform those acts on each other in an attempt to solicit money from the officers.
All of this illegal activity was encouraged and went on in front of the club’s owner, managers,bouncers and bartenders who profited from it.

Platinum Showgirls owner Matt Barrow, 52, is charged with racketeering, felony public nuisance, unlawfully possessing property for the purpose of selling controlled substances, and deriving support from the proceeds of prostitution by allowing employees to engage in prohibited acts.

Managers Kenneth Willig, 45, of Boynton Beach and Gregory Lenox, 34, of Lake Worth are charged with racketeering, felony public nuisance, deriving support from the proceeds of prostitution and allowing employees to engage in prohibited acts.
Lily Gibeaut, 51, who detectives identified as the “Madam” after she negotiated the prices of girls and private rooms with undercover officers, is charged with racketeering, felony public nuisance, deriving support from the proceeds of prostitution, aiding solicitation of prostitution and allowing employees to
engage in prohibited acts.

As a result of this investigation, the state will be filing an injunction to keep the club’s doors shut, and the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco is looking to revoke Platinum Showgirls’ liquor license.

The Boynton Beach Police Department would like to thank the Drug Enforcement Administration, Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.

StJuste, Ronald (b/m 1-11-88) advised he was walking w/b along Gateway when he heard shots being fired at him from a west bound vehicle (NFI). StJuste advised that he fled and ultimately got a ride to Bethesda. StJuste could not provide any suspect information and had only a minor grazing type injury to the head. StJuste decided that he did not wish to cooperate any longer and signed a refusal to prosecute.

Boynton Beach Police have arrested Suprinet Augustin, the gunman in Wednesday night's shooting death of Junior Cesar at Pence Park. Police received an anonymous phone call as to Augustin's whereabouts. He was taken into custody in the 2200 block of NW 2nd Street around 8:30 p.m. He is charged with first degree murder with a firearm. He will be taken to the Palm Beach County Jail.

The suspect passed a note to the teller demanding that she does not move or alert anyone. The suspect then demanded all the money in her drawer and then fled in a light-colored Toyota Corolla driven by a black female with a bandanna.

Units responded to the business in reference to an alarm, discovering the rear door of the business pried open. The door led to a storage room that had another door leading to the interior of the business. The second door was not compromised and could not be entered at this time. The storage room appeared to have been burglarized as indicated by a storage cabinet found with its doors open. It is unknown what was taken. There was nothing of value left behind. The perimeter door could not be secured. No representative could be located. Crime scene responded and collected to latex gloves left behind.

On Monday, October 26, 2009, at approximately 7:00 pm, a black male suspect committed an armed robbery to the Metro PCS store located at 915 N. Dixie Highway, Lake Worth. The suspect entered the business brandishing a chrome semi-automatic handgun, demanded money from the cash register as well as two customers that were inside the store and then fled the store on foot.

The subject is dark skinned black male, approximately 25-30 years of age, 5’10” – 6’0” ft, 160-180 lbs, facial hair on his cheeks and bushy eyebrows.

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw announced today, the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) has awarded the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reaccredited status at the Commission’s Meeting held in Ponte Verde Beach, Florida.

The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) assessment team that arrived in August 2009 was composed of law enforcement practioners from similar agencies who reviewed written materials; interviewed individuals; and visited offices and other places where compliance could be witnessed and then reported their findings to the Commission.

To be awarded reaccredited status from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA), the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office had to comply with approximately 260 standards in order to receive its third reaccredited status.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office was initially accredited by CFA in 2000, and previously received reaccredited status in 2003 and 2006. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office’s accreditation is for 3 years. Verification by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) assessment team that the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain or maintain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.

Shooting in Boynton

Boynton Beach Police are investigating the shooting death of a man at Pence Park tonight.

Police received calls of numerous shots fired at 7:32 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found the victim deceased on the basketball court. He was shot multiple times.

Witnesses told detectives that the man, who was in his 20s, was playing basketball with 6-7 males when the shooting occurred.

Detectives at this hour are talking to witnesses and following up on leads.

W/F, Lauren Gagliardi, 01/02/88, arrested after investigation revealed she had been found in the store bathroom slapping her hand against the stall and slapping her self in the face, while asking an employee if she had any knowledge of drugs because she had taken a shot of Heroin. In plain view, a plastic baggie with Heroin was located next to the defendant’s purse. TOT PBCJ.

Victim reported an unknown person entered her residence through an unlocked kitchen window between 0630 and 1634 hours and removed a computer and miscellaneous jewelry valued at a total loss of $995.00.

Victim reported that an unknown person “punched” the door locks of her Ford F-150 in an attempt to get into the vehicle between 1615 and 1700 hours. Nothing was taken.

NOPE LIGHTS up the NIGHT in remembrance

In Palm Beach County, 308 people died of drug overdoses in 2008 – more than the number of people who died in car crashes, homicides and suicides. Many of these accidental deaths were the result of mixing prescription pills with alcohol, cocaine and/or other drugs.

To bring attention to the destructive forces of drug abuse, The NOPE (Narcotic Overdose Prevention and Education) Task Force, and its partners, to include the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, will hold its 3rd Annual NOPE National Candle Light Vigil starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, at Lynn University in Boca Raton. Similar vigils will be held in more than 25 other communities across the country.

Community leaders, law enforcement officials, and other anti-drug advocates will light candles, bow their heads in a moment of silence, and view a wall and video featuring the stories of teenagers and adults who died of drug poisoning. They will also listen to former Florida Office of Drug Control Director Bill Janes deliver a keynote address on the strategies NOPE and the authorities are using to fight back against prescription drug abuse.

Between 1845 and 2145 hrs suspect(s) unknown broke into three vehicles at AMF Bowling, by punching the door locks. Once inside the vehicles they ripped apart the dashboards and stole the electronics units. One of the vehicles also had a Keltec .380 semi-auto pistol taken from the center console. Total loss was $6620. A partial print was obtained from one of the vehicles. There is no video surveillance available for this incident.

Victim reported that he was parked at the gas pumps and went inside the station at 1850 hours, returning to find the rear passenger window broken at 1855 hours. A 40 inch Samsung LCD television had been removed from the backseat of the vehicle. A witness did not observe the theft, but advised a new model orange Dodge Challenger or Chevrolet Camaro (with black stripes), which had been parked near the victim’s vehicle, had sped off upon the witness viewing the two black male occupants. No further description provided on the occupants. Total loss is $960.00. Video surveillance exists, but was not provided by the business.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on a Honda Accord for a traffic offense. As the vehicle pulled in to the parking lot of Bru’s Room, the driver Michael Leroy (06/03/82) threw a plastic cup out of the open window. Leroy was arrested for Littering and an inventory of the vehicle revealed 1.9 grams of marijuana and a glass pipe in the center console. Leroy was charged with littering, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and transported to the Palm Beach County Jail.

Officers arrested Marcia Diaz-Albo (03/26/76) after she attempted to steal a scarf valued at $38.00 from Macy’s. The merchandise was recovered without incident and she was released with an NTA.

09-53873 2103 Hrs Disorderly Intoxication/Resisting Arrest w/o Violence 1116 Villa Ln

Officers responded to 1116 Villa Ln in reference to a verbal argument between roommates. As officers were preparing to leave, an intoxicated Catherine Bove (05/06/88) followed officers outside and began screaming obscenities. She refused multiple requests to return to the residence and continued screaming at the officers. While being placed under arrest, Bove began struggling with officers. She was subsequently arrested and sent to the Palm Beach County Jail without further incident.

Victim advised that she parked her 2003 Buick in the parking lot of the Cracker Barrel at approximately 1700 hours and went inside to work. When she returned to the vehicle at approximately 2230 hours, she discovered the vehicle unlocked and $304.00 in currency taken from the center console. Security camera footage shows an unknown vehicle pull behind the victim’s car at 2018 hours and leave approximately 5 minutes later. No suspect information obtained.

There have been several suspicious incidents in the area of Osceola Creek Middle School, Loxahatchee in the last week or so. We have two vehicles that have tried to stop and talk to middle school children.

The first is an older white four door vehicle that has dents scratches and possibly gray primer on one of the front fenders. This vehicle was occupied by 3 to 4 Hispanic males who tried to get a middle school girl to get in their vehicle.

The second is also a white four door vehicle with tinted windows unknown driver due to the tinted windows. This vehicle also tried to get a middle school girl from Osceola Creek Middle School to come over to their vehicle.

In both of these cases the children did not approach the vehicle and walked away.

If anyone should witness any suspicious activity they are urged to contact Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office at 688-3400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.

The safety of the children is our concern and we can all make a difference by being vigilant.

Officers pull suicidal man from ledge of I-95

Two Boynton Beach motorcycle officers on routine patrol this morning stopped a 23-year-old man from ending his life when they pulled him from the ledge of the southbound exit ramp wall at Gateway
Boulevard and Interstate 95. Officers Daniel Griswold and Anthony Magnanti first noticed the man sitting next to a suitcase on the sidewalk of the I-95 overpass at Gateway Boulevard. The man was writing in a notebook.

Sensing that something wasn’t right, they made a u-turn and drove back around to check on him. By this time, the man had moved to the southbound exit ramp wall, his feet dangling over the ledge. The man looked over at the officers and then quickly looked away. Concerned that he was going to jump, Officer Griswold drove up to the man and got off his motorcycle. The man then inched forward on the ledge, closer to the edge. That’s when Officer
Magnanti, a member of the department’s Crisis Intervention Team, approached from behind andgrabbed him.

The man then grabbed onto the railing and tried to pull himself and Officer Magnanti over the ledge. Officer Griswold then grabbed hold of both of them, pulling them onto the pavement. The man was then taken into custody.
The officers found a suicide note, which he had just finished writing, in his pants pocket. He was taken to a mental health facility under the state’s Baker Act.
“Were it not for the concern of these officers, this man very well could have succeeded in ending his life,” Police Chief G. Matthew Immler said. “He will now be able to get the help he obviously needs.

"Their actions were heroic.”

An employee at ABC Liquors observed a black male concealing two bottles of gin in his pants. As the employee attempted to recover the gin the suspect, described as being approx 40 to 50 yrs old 5’08” 150 lbs, attempted to force the employee out of the way. When the suspect was not able to force his way past the employee he removed the bottles from his pants and fled the store. Suspect was last seen leaving in a Toyota Camry bearing FL tag M032KC.

While investigating a panic alarm, Sgt. Crowell encountered B/M Andre Dickerson who subsequently fled the area. Investigation revealed that Dickerson was in an argument with his girlfriend when she became afraid and activated the panic alarm. Charges are being filed on Dickerson.

Officers responded to the above location in reference to a burglary in progress. Victim stated that he was about to enter his vehicle when he noticed two black male juveniles inside the vehicle. He then retreated to his home and phoned police. Investigation revealed that the juveniles had attempted to smash the steering column in an attempt to steal the vehicle. Damage estimated at $100. Search of the area met with negative results.

When she got home she realized her purse was missing. Victim was given back her purse and advised that only a Wachovia checkbook and debit card were missing.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance with identifying a person wanted for Fraudulently Using Stolen Credit Cards

On September 15, 2009, at approximately 10:15 pm, an armed robbery to a person was committed by two (2) black males in the 2600 block of N. Military Trail, West Palm Beach. During this armed robbery the victim’s credit cards were stolen.

The next day, September 16, 2009, at approximately 10:50 pm the black female shown below, was captured on store video surveillance using several credit cards belonging to the victim of the armed robbery. This female used the stolen credit cards at the following locations: Wal-Mart - 9990 Belvedere Road, RPB, McDonalds - 1775 N. Military Trail, WPB and Wal-Mart - 4375 Belvedere Road, WPB.

The suspect is a black female, approximately 5’5” – 5’8”, 220 – 230 lbs and 35 – 45 years of age.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office REMINDS the Public that Misuse of Laser Lighting Device is a FELONY

There has been an ongoing problem with the misuse of a green laser that has been pointed into the cockpits of aircrafts landing at PBIA.

* Misuse of Laser Lighting Device is a 3rd degree felony.

* Any person who knowingly and willfully shines, points, or focuses the beam of a laser lighting device on an individual operating a motor vehicle, vessel, or aircraft and such act results in bodily injury commits a felony in the 2nd degree felony.

* If the aircraft were to crash it would be a 1st degree felony.

Should anyone witness the misuse of a Laser Lighting Device please report it immediately to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the nearest law enforcement agency or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.

Isidro Castillo was participating in a motorcycle race at Palm Beach International Raceway on Sunday, October 4, 2009. As he was making his 2nd turn he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a wall. He was air lifted to St. Mary’s Hospital where he was listed in CRITICAL condition.

TODAY, October 13, 2009, Isidro Castillo died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the motorcycle accident.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting in Belle Glade. At approximately 1:00 pm an adult W/M was shot in the rear of 211 SW 5th Street. The victim was shot in the upper torso and was transported to Delray Medical Center via TraumaHawk with non-life threatening injuries at this time. Detectives are on scene. Ofc Sohn conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching a bolo that had been issued in reference to a strong arm robbery in Lantana. As the vehicle was stopping the driver, identified as Nunez, Christopher (w/m 3-7-90), began making numerous furtive movements beneath the driver’s seat. Ofc Sohn ordered Nunez out of the vehicle and observed, in plain view, a loaded magazine for a 9mm pistol. A search of the vehicle revealed a Ruger 9mm pistol beneath the seat and two small bags of marijuana. Nunez was arrested and TOT PBCJ.

Sgt. Faine attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 1997 Oldsmobile 4 door, bearing FL tag # N868JS, traveling s/b on N. Federal Hwy., driving at a high rate of speed.

When Sgt. Faine attempted a traffic stop the vehicle continued to travel at a high rate of speed attempting to elude the traffic stop. The vehicle then made an abrupt turn into the parking lot of 400 N.

Victim stated that at approximately 2100 hrs she was walking to her car which was parked outside the East Main entrance to the Mall. When she neared her car, a Latin male (6-00, 180lbs) approached her from behind and snatched her purse from her shoulder. The victim was uninjured and stated the male ran south through the parking lot towards Old Boynton Road. Victim stated that inside her purse was a custom gold necklace with a distinctive Greek symbol charm ($2000.00). Victim stated she delayed reporting the incident as she locked herself in her car and then drove around before returning to the Mall to call police.

As the victim finished pumping gas she noticed a black or Latin female was closing her passenger door, and was in possession of the victim’s purse. The suspect then entered a silver in color Porsche SUV, which fled east on Gateway Blvd. Total loss was $251. The incident may have been caught on the business’ surveillance video, which will not be available until the manager comes in.

B/M Jean Saint Louis Lormeus has been missing since 09/25/09 from 1217 15th Ave. South, Lake Worth. His vehicle was found on 9/25/09 in the 5600 blk. of Congress Ave. near JFK Hospital. LORMEUS is despondent, he has no income or source of money. LORMEUS has not answered his cell phone calls from his roommate and he has no relatives in the U.S. Anyone with information is asked to call the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office at 561-688-3400.
